Upcoming Changes to Septic Systems in Florida

Realtors in Florida should understand changes to the state septic system policies so they can advise customers before, during and after real estate transactions.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – With 2.7 million septic tanks buried in Florida and an estimated half of those more than 30 years old and 9.5% continuously failing, Florida is facing mounting environmental and water-quality challenges. In response, lawmakers in 2023 approved water quality legislation with new requirements and deadlines for septic system maintenance and installation.

To help Realtors® better understand this transition, Florida Realtors® created a comprehensive infographic with detailed information and the timeline for some of the changes.
